Walter Hensley is 66 years old and the third generation of
coopers in his family from Bardstown, Kentucky.
For more than 40 years, he repaired barrels for some of the
region’s most respected distilleries. Barrels that, once their
bourbon-aging life was over, were often sold off, dismantled,
or turned into generic furniture.
Walter chose to do something different.
He began rescuing the finest staves from used Heaven Hill and
Buffalo Trace barrels and transforming them, one by one, into
The Hensley Cup.

500
Individually
numbered pieces
Ten hours. One cup.
Each piece requires approximately 10 hours of hands-on work:
selecting the right stave, cutting it, turning it, hollowing it
out, applying the Char #3 interior by hand with a torch, sealing
it with food-safe beeswax, and finally signing and numbering it.
The marks, variations, and grain patterns in the wood are not
imperfections. They are proof that every cup comes from an
authentic bourbon barrel and has been shaped entirely by hand.

Walter will make only 500 individually numbered pieces.
Once he finishes number 500, he will hang up his tools
for good.
There will be no second version, no restock, and no new
